Frequently asked questions

Clarity before the first conversation.

Straight answers about contacting the firm, agreeing legal work and using public legal resources responsibly. These answers are general information, not advice on your facts.

Practical guidance

Know what happens next.

These answers set sensible expectations without assuming the facts of your matter. If a date is approaching, say so at the beginning of your enquiry.

Getting started

Before you instruct the firm

What to share, what to hold back and how to protect an approaching deadline.

Does sending an enquiry create a lawyer–client relationship?

No. An enquiry lets the firm make an initial assessment. A lawyer–client relationship begins only after any required conflict check, agreement on the scope of work and formal confirmation from SG Advocates.

What should I include in my first message?

Give a short factual timeline, identify the other people or organisations involved, say what stage the matter has reached and highlight any known deadline. Do not send original documents, passwords, bank details or extensive sensitive material until the firm tells you how to provide it safely.

What happens at an initial consultation?

The discussion is used to understand the relevant facts, documents, procedural position and your objective. The lawyer may identify questions that need further checking and explain possible next steps. A complete opinion may require a separate document review or legal research.

What if a limitation period, hearing or filing deadline is close?

State the exact date prominently when you contact the firm and use an official court or authority channel where immediate action is required. An unanswered message does not extend a deadline, stop proceedings or confirm that SG Advocates is acting for you.

Can I consult SG Advocates from outside Lahore or outside Pakistan?

An initial discussion can often take place by telephone or video call, subject to identity, conflict and suitability checks. Whether a matter can be handled remotely depends on the court, authority, documents, location and work required.

Working together

Scope, costs and communication

Practical safeguards that should be clear before substantive work begins.

How are confidentiality and conflicts handled before engagement?

The firm asks for enough information to identify relevant parties and assess a potential conflict before accepting instructions. Initial information is handled with care, but you should avoid sending unnecessary secrets until the conflict check and engagement status are confirmed.

How will legal fees and other costs be explained?

The appropriate basis depends on the work, urgency, complexity and likely stages. Before paid work begins, ask for written confirmation of the agreed scope, fee basis, applicable taxes and separately payable expenses such as court fees, official charges, travel or third-party services.

Who will handle my matter and how will I receive updates?

The responsible lawyer and any supporting team members should be identified when the scope is confirmed. Communication frequency depends on the matter, but you may ask who your main contact is, which decisions require your approval and how material developments will be reported.

Can a lawyer guarantee the result or duration of a case?

No. Outcomes and timelines can depend on evidence, the conduct of other parties, court or authority schedules, changes in law and decisions outside a lawyer's control. Advice should address options and risks without promising a particular result.

Public resources

Using legal information responsibly

How to read the site's statutes, court links and editorial material.

Are articles, statutes and court summaries on this website legal advice?

No. They provide general legal information and may not reflect every amendment, exception or fact relevant to your situation. Check the linked official source and obtain advice on your own facts before acting or deciding not to act.

Can I rely on a hearing date, case status or judgment link shown here?

Use it as a route to the relevant official service, not as a substitute for the court record. Listings and case information can change. Confirm a date, status, order or filing requirement with the relevant court registry, official portal and your lawyer.

How can I report an inaccurate page or broken official link?

Use the corrections form and include the SG Advocates page address, the fact that appears incorrect and, where possible, the relevant official source. The submission is reviewed before the public page is changed.

Careers

Applications and internships

A clear route for people interested in working with the firm.

How should I apply for a role or internship with SG Advocates?

Use the careers page and follow the instructions for the relevant opening. Submit accurate contact, education and experience information, and do not include identity documents or unrelated sensitive records unless they are requested through a verified recruitment step. An application does not guarantee an interview or placement.

A focused first conversation helps identify the right next step. Sending a message does not create a lawyer–client relationship.
